One True Lover
The cover and title of this book do not do it justice. It's more than just a book about a young married couple or an addiction to porn. It's also about families, hidden secrets, yearnings and mistakes.
Sometimes, there were moments when I felt like shouting at Frances, the wife who senses something isn't right and continually ignores the signs or can't face them. Her husband is an addict, not just to porn, but to alcohol too. This is a book written about two people the same age as my own parents so it is a little out of my time and there is an evident generation gap. However, saying that, I really believed everything that happened in this book, as if it were real. I could imagine this having absolutely happened.
I had my suspicions about what had driven Martin to addiction and dependence and I can say, when the truth came, I was still shocked to read it.
This book was a page turner. It was thoroughly thought-out and well structured. Not a word was wasted. It was a difficult subject matter to tackle so it was a real surprise from a first-time author! Try it.
