Slivers Of Life
A must-read novel for fans of the dystopian genre, Echoes from the Lost Ones by Nicole J. McDonagh takes readers on rough and tumble ride through a future society where necessary items like food are at a premium and humans are segregated into separate groupings in which distrust of one another and prejudice between the differing groups is commonplace. Adara, the main character and narrative voice, is a girl with the unique ability to draw birds to her. This is a skill that puts the girl in position to be much sought-after by those who may not have her best interests at heart.
Though the scenery is that of a wasteland where the decayed past is on full display and all animals—except birds—are extinct, Echoes from the Lost Ones is not another post-apocalyptic story. What author McDonagh has created is a strong novel filled with amazing characters, strange and wonderful dialects, and a story that pulls readers deep inside its well-plotted world while refusing to turn them loose. Nicola J. McDonagh offers a unique style in the way she tells a story, which makes her book refreshing and different from the standard fare currently occupying the market. This is book one in a series I look forward to reading.
